Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some say the history is one of the if not the most crucial subject in school while the others say that it is present days subjects like technology and science rather than history. both are important topics which are need to be taught in schools.

history is a very important, so every child should be taught about it in school.

History is our past, our roots. There is a saying "we must not forget our roots" and it is true, one must learn about the past of their nation, history of the world. if they students learn the history they would understand the workings of the world and also they learn the past mistakes of their previous generations did and learn from those mistake to not repeat them again.

For example, if the kids get educated how the world war 1 and 2 started and what were the causes which led war started. if they learn these they will know better not to repeat same things which led the world to war.

But science and technology are also crucial subjects too, if the history is about the past then science and technology is about future.

People say that without science the world would not have any development. Science is everything we see and feel, from normal objects we daily see to far away planets,

Science and technology goes hand in hand without the science there is no development or no technology and without the technology science can not advance.

So every student must learn these concepts so they can understand the workings of the world.

for example, with science and technology students now are learning about the plants and how they revolve around the sun with the help if telescopes.

In my opinion, Both the concepts of history our past and science and technology our future should be taught in the school. What we should do is give a strong foundation in both till to a certain level like till high-school and then we leave the option to pursue which they love the most, in the end its all about the development of students, so lets leave the choice from them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the importance of history and the significance of science and technology, while providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though some arguments, such as the example regarding planets and telescopes, are slightly underdeveloped and could benefit from more specific detail. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion provides a balanced synthesis of the two views. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting example is fully explained to demonstrate its direct relevance to the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the final conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'For example', 'So', 'But'). The transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be strengthened by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'foundation' and 'development'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'present days subjects' instead of 'contemporary subjects' or 'modern subjects'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'the history is about the past' (unnecessary article). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic terminology and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding article usage ('the history', 'the science'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For instance, 'if they students learn' and 'what were the causes which led war started' contain structural inaccuracies that hinder the fluency of the writing. While the student attempts complex sentences, these are often where the errors are most noticeable. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and refining the use of complex structures will significantly improve the score.
