Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many individuals believe that historic knowledge is a more beneficial subject in academia. However, few individuals argue that science and technology have played a vital role in society nowadays. From my perspective, historic information will be helpful for societal growth and progress, and scientific knowledge is necessary for innovative research and technological advancement as well as therapeutic medicines.

On the one hand, people are in favor of including history as a subject in schools. According to them, without historical knowledge a nation cannot make progress because by reading historic books and knowing their national heroes, their policies toward their states help them to make better decisions.

On the other hand, many people suggest that science has made massive progress in the current time. Schools should compulsorily add this subject to their syllabus because scientific data revolutionize the whole world. It facilitates their users in every field and does a lot for the welfare of mankind.

In my opinion, both subjects have their own importance and values. medical, astronomical, digital technology, etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 171 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both views and provide a personal opinion, the arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the paragraph on science mentions that it 'revolutionizes the whole world' but lacks specific examples or logical expansion. The conclusion is also incomplete, consisting of a list of fields rather than a cohesive summary of your position. To improve, you must expand your supporting points with detailed explanations and concrete examples to meet the length requirement and fully explore the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in perspective. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the final paragraph is fragmented, lacking a proper concluding sentence to tie the arguments together. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some appropriate terms like 'academic,' 'societal growth,' and 'technological advancement.' However, there is a lack of variety and precision. Phrases like 'historic information' and 'historic books' are slightly repetitive and could be improved with more academic collocations. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your meaning, but it does not demonstrate the range or flexibility required for higher bands. Focus on incorporating more topic-specific vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'without historical knowledge a nation cannot make progress because by reading historic books...' While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'few individuals argue' (which should be 'a few') and 'medical, astronomical, digital technology, etc.' (which is a sentence fragment), these do not generally impede communication. Your control of basic grammar is decent, but you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy to improve your score. Ensure that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
