Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many individuals say History is one of the most important subjects in school while other people believe that in modern era, subjects like science and technology are more important than history. I partly agree with both views, we are going to discuss both views in this essay.
First and foremost, History is one of the most important subjects in schools. It teaches about past events; helps people to understand how past events has happened. By studying wars, revolution, political movements and old traditional culture. Student can learn important lessons about human behaviors, leadership, conflict and social development. For example, learning about the world war can encourage students to become more responsible. Moreover, History helps to preserve a country's culture and traditions by learning and spreading the knowledge of our cultural heritage and historical figures, student develop a strong knowledge and proud to be a citizen on that country who has this type of culture.
On the other hand, science and technology are more important because they prepare students for today's rapidly changing world. Scientific and technical knowledge provide wide range of career opportunities as many modern industries, such as artificial intelligence, software engineering even in health care industries these skills are required. Moreover, since science and technology play crucial role in solving global challenges for, instance medical research has led to life-saving vaccines. Along with that science and technology have also innovate facilities like transportation, communication and education.
In my opinion, although History should remain an important part of the school curriculum, science and technology deserve greater emphasis.
In conclusion, History is important because it teaches valuable lessons about the past and helps preserve cultural identity, but in today's world science and technology are much more important because they prepare students for modern challenges and more future job opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the arguments regarding the practical benefits of science and technology. However, the development of the history argument is slightly more descriptive than analytical. While the position is clear throughout, the essay could benefit from more nuanced exploration of how these subjects intersect or why the balance is shifting. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the comma splice in the introduction ('...both views, we are going to...'). Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas remains clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'artificial intelligence', 'software engineering', and 'cultural heritage'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'innovate facilities' (should be 'innovated' or 'improved') and 'proud to be a citizen on that country' (should be 'in that country'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('how past events has happened' instead of 'have happened') and article usage errors ('the world war' instead of 'World War II'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some run-on sentences and comma splices. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures would be needed for a band 7 or above.
