Student answer (Band 5.5)

The rising importance history subjects in schools over the subjects affiliated with science and technology has become a widely debated issue. Some people believe that subjects related to history can add more value as compare to technological subjects while others disagree with this idea. I firmly stand with the latter opinion and considers that science and technology courses should be the primary focus for schools as these are the subjects which can play a significent role towards future advancements.

Firstly the school of though who agrees that historical subjects are far important from any other subjects have their own reasons. They believe that historical subjects can make people aware about the position from were ancient human civilization started and where we are headed right now. This can result in motivating the children to play their part in this trajectory of this ongoing progression and to be a productive member of society. However adolescents can learn alot from the past experiences of our ancestors which can save them from alot of hustle in near future.

However having said that, still technological subjects holds a great importance in the current sementics of academics. As grasping the history is good but children usually have a carrer to pursue, a job to achieve and an ambition to follow. So in that regard it is the dire need of the hour for them to study the modern day courses which can help them in achieving the future they want. Moreover rather than studying the historical subjects it is more important for children to be aware with the recent scientific and technological happenings in order to contribute towards the further advancements in the developing world.

To conclude it is evident that studying history is not a waste of time but at the same time it should not be the primary focus for schools. Schools should be more inclined towards scientific and technological developments which can not only pave the chidren's paths towards their dream career but can make them an asset to society as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument for history is brief and relies on general statements about 'ancient human civilization' without specific examples. Similarly, the argument for science and technology focuses on 'career' and 'ambition' but lacks depth regarding how these subjects specifically drive societal progress. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples or detailed explanations to support your claims, rather than relying on broad generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'the school of though who agrees', which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the cohesion. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of linking words could be more varied and natural to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'trajectory', 'progression', and 'semantics'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice or incorrect collocations, such as 'current sementics of academics' and 'save them from alot of hustle'. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'significent' and 'carrer'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and better attention to spelling to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'technological subjects holds', 'I... considers') and article usage (e.g., 'rising importance history subjects'). There are also punctuation issues, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. While the writer attempts complex sentences, these often contain errors that slightly distract the reader. To improve, focus on ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly, as these are foundational elements that currently limit the score.
