Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding history are somewhat vague, focusing on 'agreements' and 'ancestors' without specific examples. The section on science and technology is more developed but remains superficial. The essay lacks a clear, cohesive structure for the opinion, which is only briefly mentioned in the conclusion. To improve, you should provide more detailed, concrete examples and ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs rather than just at the end.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often interrupted by abrupt transitions and fragmented sentences. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'in addition science and technology is the reason'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between sentences within paragraphs is weak. For example, the transition between the importance of history and the shift to science and technology feels disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'significant', 'important', and 'essential'. There are some attempts at more sophisticated language, such as 'state of the art', but these are often used in contexts that feel slightly unnatural or grammatically awkward. There is also some repetition of words like 'individuals' and 'science and technology'. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of synonyms and collocations, and ensure that your word choices are appropriate for an academic essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'science and technology is'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For instance, 'History can not help us to live in this world' is a simple structure, but the lack of proper sentence boundaries and incorrect usage of 'its' instead of 'it's' detracts from the quality. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
