Student answer (Band 5.5)
Opinions are divided on whereas History is one of the most crucial school subject or if, conversely Science and technology are more important. While compelling arguments can be both sides, I believe that Science and technology are more significant than history in this contemporary era, due to the fact that there ability to change the trajectory of the community.
On the one hand, Proponents of the former side argue
History is the most crucial because it gives valuable information about our origin. For instance, from history we can about the condition of our previous generations, such as what there language was, how they traveled or communicated with other tribes. A pertinent example is that from the book of Troy we can learn about the great city of Troy and its kings and queen though the city is completely lost to time.
Nevertheless, I side with those who contend that Science and technology is far more superior subject because they have the ability to change our lifestyle. A pertinent example of this is ChatGPT. As soon as it got introduced with the contemporary audience it has gained a huge popularity due to its ability to solve any questions . This is evident by, nowadays anyone can write a poet or story using a single command in the platform without having any prior knowledge in the field, providing reinforcement in my overall opinion.
In conclusion, despite both viewpoints have valid arguments, but i believe that Science and technology are more important than the History because they have the ability to solve and difficult task, thus making our life more and more comfortable/

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both viewpoints and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for History is limited to a single, slightly vague example about the city of Troy, while the argument for Science and technology relies heavily on the example of ChatGPT. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments lack depth and academic rigor. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the societal implications of these subjects rather than focusing on specific tools or singular historical examples. The conclusion is present but contains grammatical errors that slightly detract from the overall clarity of the position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Nevertheless,' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'providing reinforcement in my overall opinion.' Additionally, there are issues with referencing and sentence-level cohesion, such as the run-on structure in the final sentence. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'trajectory,' 'contemporary era,' and 'proponents.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'far more superior' (redundant) and 'write a poet' (should be 'poem'). Some phrases are also slightly unnatural, such as 'got introduced with the contemporary audience.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on learning collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('there ability' instead of 'their ability,' 'Science and technology is' instead of 'are'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For example, 'Opinions are divided on whereas' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors like 'there/their' and 'is/are' agreement, and try to incorporate more complex structures with greater accuracy.
