Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few individuals said that history is the significant subject in schools while others think that in present era subjects like science and technology are more important than history. I am totally in favor of later notion while the benefits of history is also discussed in upcoming paragraphs.

In general it is lucid that , History have great importance among all subjects in schools ,the main reasons which support this notion is due to History is the median between past and present . For instance history tell about our roots .For instance history shows that how evolution takes place from past to present. the tertiary reason is that history subject reveals about our traditions and culture. Students learn from books that no one is going to tell about facts.

On the latter notion , I support my viewpoints due to following reasons the predominent one one is science is the other side of technology. To elaborate science is the founder of new innovations which is important to taught in schools. For example science experiments leads us to new inventions such as rockets ,vehicle ,mobile. Moreover , The secondary point is science and technology connects students to real time world because increase in technology requires good knowledge about science subject. For example experiments requires good theoretical knowledge.

Overall ,there are myraid of advantages of history subjects in schools such as history behaves as a median between present and past and the second one is history tell us about our roots but benefits of science and technology subject in school can not be ignored such as science is founder of new inventions and it connects students to real world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the arguments regarding history are repetitive, focusing on 'roots' and 'past to present' without deep exploration. The section on science and technology is also quite brief, relying on lists of examples (rockets, vehicles) rather than a nuanced discussion of their societal impact. While the task is addressed, the ideas lack the depth required for a higher band score. The conclusion simply restates the points made rather than synthesising them effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On the latter notion' and 'the tertiary reason' feel forced or misused. There are also issues with punctuation, such as the space before the comma in 'lucid that , History'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs is abrupt. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional awkward phrasing hinder the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'median' instead of 'bridge' or 'link', and 'founder of new innovations' instead of 'driver' or 'catalyst'. The phrase 'myraid of' is used, but the surrounding context is simple. Some errors, such as 'important to taught' (should be 'taught'), indicate a lack of control over word forms. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'History have' and 'experiments leads'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing or misplaced commas and inconsistent capitalisation (e.g., 'History' and 'Science' are sometimes capitalised mid-sentence). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. More attention to verb forms and sentence punctuation is needed.
