Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is ongoing debate about the learning History as a subject. Some people argue that it is crucial subject for school while others believe that in today's technological world, other subjects like Science and technology are more beneficial than history. This essay will discuss both the trends before presenting my view .

To begin with, learning history at school is very crucial for several reasons.First of all , it allow a children to learn about the origin of their nation as well as about the sacrifices that national heroes did for their nation. As a result , it will encourage them to do something useful and innovative for their nation.Furthermore history shapes natioanl identity of a person .For instance, a Child who know history ,also know how its national identity is shaped over a period of time.

On the contrast, learning other subjects like science and technology than history is more important because it allow an individual to be up to dated and not stick to the old stories of histories. Moreover, history may told the stories and traditions of the past but it not enable a person to innovate something new such as learning science and technology. For example, a doctor may discover the possible reasons behind the spread of skin cancer by doing experiments .So science and technology may lead to advancement over a period of time unlike history.

In conclusion, while history may keep children stick to their origin, traditions and culture but subjects like science and technology lead them to the height of the sky. I strongly agree that subjects like Science and Technology should be included in school curriculum instead of History beacuse it fosters creativity and make a person aware of the latest trends and innovations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the importance of national identity for history and the role of innovation in science. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding history is a bit repetitive, and the comparison between the two fields could be more nuanced. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting evidence is relatively simple. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or broader real-world examples to demonstrate a deeper engagement with the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'On the contrast', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these transitions feel mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'On the contrast' (which should be 'In contrast' or 'On the other hand'). Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While the overall progression is coherent, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or natural, which limits the score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'technological world', 'national identity', and 'innovations'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'learning History as a subject' (should be 'learning history'), 'it allow a children' (should be 'it allows children'), and 'up to dated' (should be 'up to date'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise collocations that would elevate the response to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('it allow', 'history may told'), article misuse ('a children'), and punctuation errors (spacing before commas). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of full control over complex structures. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
