IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that in today’s world subjects like Science and technology are more important than History.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example form your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

History is more often considered an essential subject in schools because it gives the previous knowledge to the students which is most important for them to know at that time as it belongs to their country and as well as increase their knowledge towards their own history .That is the reason it has a lot of important as school subject.

Those who argue that History is essential believe it helps students understand how past events shape present societies. By studying wars, revolutions, and political movements, students develop critical thinking skills and learn to analyze cause-and-effect relationships. For instance, understanding the Pakistan Movement and the events leading to independence in 1947 helps students appreciate the sacrifices behind their national identity and avoid repeating past political mistakes. Moreover, History teaches empathy by exposing students to diverse cultures and perspectives across time.

On the other hand, supporters of Science and technology argue that these subjects are more directly linked to economic growth and employability. In an era dominated by artificial intelligence, data science, and rapid technological change, countries that prioritize STEM education tend to produce a more competitive workforce. Skills such as coding, engineering, and scientific research are increasingly in demand, and many argue that practical, job-oriented knowledge should take precedence in a fast-evolving job market.

In my opinion both history and science are important because both take part in the grooming of students in their academic and practical life . Those who do not remember their past they will lost their existence because knowing our own history is also crucial to survive in this world. Therefore rather than choosing one over the other students should stick with both of them as both provides pathways for their future and survival .

In conclusion although science and technology are important in development history also have its own importamnce.
