Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that history is an important subject in school curriculums, while others believe science and technology have more value than history. In my opinion, science and technology should deserve greater emphasis in mordern education.

On the one hand, history plays a significant role in child's development. Students can get inspirations and ideas by knowing cultural heritage, past events, wars and political conflicts. This allows them to be aware of consequences and benefits of strikes and arguments against authorities. Additionally, stories behind historical manuments cultivate respect and social morals to preserve them. Knowledge of rich culture is essential for students to know how the country reach at today's status.

On the other hand, even though history is crucial, science and technology are the future. To cope with global compitition and growing technological advancements, greater focus on science and technology is mandetory, because today every field requires modern technology like labour work has introduced with advanced equipments and automation. Youth with scientific education can contribute to modern medicine, environmental protection and engineering. For instance, students with technological abilities can easily adapt to better opportunities and career advancements. Considerably, these subjects can provide practical skills that are particularly valuable in today's rapidly changing world.

In conclusion, although history should remain a core school subject, science and technology deserve more priority because of their direct impact on employment, future development, innovation and global challenges. I think a balanced curriculum with ancient heritage and future requirements is a key to success for students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of history in cultural awareness and the necessity of science for global competition. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of how history helps students understand 'strikes and arguments against authorities' is a bit vague. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with more specific examples or deeper analysis rather than listing general benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs feel slightly mechanical. For example, the connection between 'stories behind historical monuments' and 'knowledge of rich culture' could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay maintains a coherent flow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'cultural heritage', 'technological advancements', and 'automation'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'mordern', 'compitition', 'mandetory', and 'manuments'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise collocations. For instance, instead of 'labour work has introduced with', a more natural phrasing would be 'manual labor has been transformed by'. Expanding your range of less common vocabulary would also help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there is an attempt at complex grammar, there are frequent minor errors in articles and verb forms, such as 'in child's development' (should be 'a child's development') and 'how the country reach at' (should be 'how the country reached'). Punctuation is generally correct, though some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'labour work has introduced with advanced equipments'. The errors do not cause difficulty for the reader, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring grammatical accuracy will improve your score.
