Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people believe that history is most essential school subjects. While others argue that Science and technology are more significant than History in today's world. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I chose the latter one.
In many nations, most people tend argue that history must be taught to their children to enhance the level of knowledge, when children are taught with the history they can get the idea of great events that was happened in the past. Moreover, they become motivate with the discoveries and the great achievement by the historians. For instance, history students can take their methods as the reference for their further research.
However, in the age of technology and innovation, most people state that Science and technology must be considered as the major subject to direct the world towards the success research project to shape the world. Our planet may go though the devastating issues in the future, to cope with such situation we should focus on research, which is only possible through the subject science. For instance, NASA has research a project Mars to check whether that is favorable or not the human beings to settle there. Many scientist are working on that project for making the suitable habitat for humans.
In my opinion, in the age of the technology and also the automation like AI, everyone should focus on the science and technology to adapt the environment as well as the system. If we become successful then we can cope all the problems associated with global warming as well as climate change which may make the world unfavorable for the human beings in the future. To address tackle the contemporary issues with environment, most research project must be conducted, which is only possible with the expertise in Science and technology. So, science and technology must be considered as the essential subject in comparison with history.
In conclusion, many people believe that history must be taught as the major subject, while other claim that Science and technology. In my own view, I believe that To shape the world and to mitigate the contemporary issues, Science and technology must be considered and taught as the major subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the argument for science and technology. However, the discussion of history is somewhat superficial, focusing on 'great events' without deeply exploring its role in critical thinking or cultural identity. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that the arguments for the opposing view are as robustly supported as your own. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reiterates your stance, fulfilling all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and occasionally the flow between sentences feels slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. The structure is sufficient to ensure the reader follows the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'devastating issues', 'automation', and 'mitigate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'success research project' and 'research a project Mars', which slightly hinder precision. While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the flexibility and sophisticated control required for higher bands. Improving the accuracy of collocations and using more precise academic terminology would enhance the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('most people tend argue', 'Many scientist are working') and awkward phrasing ('when children are taught with the history'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly clunky. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining the structure of complex sentences to ensure they are error-free.
