Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While both views are addressed, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. The conclusion is incomplete, consisting only of a heading, which means the student fails to clearly state their own opinion as requested by the prompt. The ideas presented, such as the role of history in preventing conflict or the impact of science on technology, are relevant but lack sufficient elaboration and specific, well-integrated examples to reach a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that feels forced. The lack of a proper conclusion disrupts the overall flow of the argument. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt, making the logical development of the essay feel disjointed at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'eassital' (essential) and 'Heath' (Health), and word choice inaccuracies, such as 'joint with our old history' instead of 'intertwined with our history'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'curriculum', but the overall range is narrow. The phrasing is often simplistic, which limits the ability to convey more complex ideas effectively. More precise vocabulary is needed to improve the quality of the expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'History provide knowledge' (subject-verb agreement), 'these day' (pluralization), and 'this did not possible' (incorrect verb structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage is essential.
