Student answer (Band 6.0)
History represents the culture and the life style of the nation. Some people believe that it should be taught in schools, while others argue that subjects such as Science and technology should be at higher priority. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe that a combination of both subjects is essential to enhance the student’s knowledge.
On the one hand, teaching history subject in schools often plays a significant role in students lives because it reminds the sacrifices were made by our elders for the nation. As a result, when students read the stories of the influential and inspirational people often encourage them to become more active and engaged in lives. For example, in India , there have been many people in the history whose books give right direction to people. Consequently, it is important to teach the history subject in schools for the betterment of students.
On the other hand, subjects such as Science and technology have many benefits when teaching in schools rather than give more importance to history subject because studying Science often enhances the student’s knowledge who wish to become doctors, nurses or pharmacists and technology makes them more able to understand the concepts more deeply and effectively. Therefore, instead of focusing more on History subject in schools other subjects are more likely to be taught in schools.
In conclusion, although Science and technology provide more valuable knowledge that is relevant to the medical world and makes easy to understand the things, the importance of History should not be ignored. I believe the combination of both subjects is the best approach for the better future of students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the importance of history for cultural awareness and science for career prospects, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the reference to 'many people in the history' in India is vague and does not clearly illustrate how history books provide direction. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended with more concrete reasoning or detailed examples that directly link back to the prompt's core question about the relative importance of these subjects.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the flow between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition in the second paragraph from the importance of elders to the example of India feels slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds naturally upon the previous one would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'influential,' 'inspirational,' and 'pharmacists.' However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'teaching history subject' (should be 'teaching history') and 'makes easy to understand the things' (which is overly simplistic). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terminology would help you move into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'reminds the sacrifices were made' (missing 'of' and 'that'), 'there have been many people in the history' (unnecessary article), and 'when teaching in schools' (dangling modifier). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures and article usage. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will be beneficial.
