Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemporary society there is debate ongoing on the subject of history. Many people believe that history is considered as one of the major subject and should be taught in school levels while other argue that science and technology should be taught rather than history as it has more importance.

Many people strongly believe that in school levels i.e primary, secondary or either tertiary History should be taught at each level of education as it is the foundation. Reading history has several benefits firstly, knowledge increases ik different terms. Reading history of old civilization creates interest of the children to explore world in many ways.

History has several branches as well such as history of Islam , history of subcontinent, history of independence and much more. It creates awareness in the minds of children about how our ancestors had worked so hard to achieve this separate homeland. As an illustration, child who study history of Mohenjo-Daro civilization and develop interest while studying may be more interested in future to study and definitely visit the place in real as well.

However, other people argue that these subjects should be replaced with science and technology as they have more importance in current era. I personally feel that science and technology has developed so much but only switching on these subjects and ignoring history will not be the right choice. Education experts should make sure that history must be taught in school levels as it is related directly with our background , history, ancestors. In my opinion, science and technology has to be the part of secondary or tertiary education level.

In a nutshell, eliminating history from the curriculum should not be the right choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of history, such as cultural awareness and interest in civilizations, the discussion on science and technology is underdeveloped and lacks specific examples or depth. The arguments are relevant but remain at a somewhat superficial level. To improve, you should expand on why science and technology are considered more important in the modern era, perhaps by linking them to career prospects or global economic progress, to provide a more balanced and comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'In a nutshell', to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the flow. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, and the connection between the ideas in the second paragraph could be strengthened by using a wider variety of linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'contemporary society', 'curriculum', and 'civilization'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'major subject' instead of 'major subject area' and 'switching on these subjects' which is not a natural collocation. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and improving your control over collocations to sound more natural and sophisticated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'child who study' instead of 'children who study'), missing articles (e.g., 'at school levels'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding pluralization and article usage, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures.
