Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals argued that it is crucial to learn history subjects at the school. While others believe that modern society required Science and technology subjects rather than history. Although, latter opinion can be beneficial in some cases, I believe that learning history will provide more knowledge about the past society and help students in the daily activities.

Learning history as a subject will help students to gain more ideas about the past society. It will provide more sense about how ancient people live in the society, the way human life changed according to the time periods. It is better to have an idea about the past to live in the future world. Furthermore, learning history can help students in their day-to-day activities. Specially, it will help to make decisions. When studying history, student can hear stories about the people. Mainly how kings ruled the kingdom and their decision-making process. These stories can help students to make their own decisions. Not only that when they are facing a problem, they can solve that by taking example from the history.

Modern society is mostly depending on science and technology. Every child must learn how to use the technology and science subjects at the school to survive in modern era and to find a well-paid job. by learning science students can become doctors or scientists and also learning technology will help to improve more technical devices. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the response is incomplete, as it cuts off mid-sentence in the conclusion. While the ideas regarding the importance of history for decision-making and the necessity of science for career prospects are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph fully explores the implications of the arguments rather than listing general points. The abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall development of the argument, preventing a fully cohesive conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Not only that', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing is disrupted by the incomplete final paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the opening where 'latter opinion' is used somewhat awkwardly. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that flows logically into the next, avoiding the fragmented structure seen here.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You rely on simple terms like 'good', 'help', and 'learn'. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'history subjects' instead of 'history' and 'more success' instead of 'more successful'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to education and societal development. For example, instead of saying 'help students', you could use 'facilitate critical thinking' or 'broaden students' perspectives'. Expanding your range of collocations will help convey your ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Some individuals argued' instead of 'argue'), article usage ('the school'), and tense inconsistencies. There are also punctuation errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'belive' and 'lra'. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for a higher score.
