Student answer (Band 6.5)
History has traditionally rewarded the essential part of school education because it helps students to understand how the society build and developed in any country. However some people argued that science and technology are more important rather than history. I believe that, science and technology are much essential than history because in modern life and advanced technology work on all over the world. This essay will discuss both views.
On the first hand, studying history provide students deeper understanding about the society and the events that shaped the present. History can also encourage critical thinking because students are required to examine evidence, compare different perspectives and distinguish between fact and interpretation. For example, learning about previous economic crises can help students understand how certain government decisions may affect societies in the future. Therefore, History plays an important role in developing informed and responsible citizens.
On the other hand, science and technology also play a vital role in our society through various skills and planning, while technological skills are increasingly necessary in education and employment. For instance, knowledge of computer science can enable young people to participate in an increasingly digital economy and contribute to the development of new technologies.
From my point of view, technology and science play a essential role in our modern societies. Nevertheless, reducing the importance of History would be a mistake, since technological progress without an understanding of the past could lead societies to repeat previous errors.
To conclude, History is valuable because it develops cultural awareness and helps students learn from the past, whereas Science and Technology provide knowledge and skills that are increasingly important for modern life. I believe the latter should receive greater emphasis, but History should remain a core school subject as part of a well-rounded education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You have discussed both views and provided a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of critical thinking for history and the digital economy for science. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, you mention 'economic crises' as a historical example, which is good, but explaining the specific mechanism of how that knowledge prevents future errors would strengthen the response. Overall, the position is consistent and well-maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'On the first hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Nevertheless,' which help guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is generally clear. To improve, ensure that the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly more fluid, as the current structure feels a bit mechanical. Overall, the flow of information is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'distinguish between fact and interpretation' and 'well-rounded education' are effective. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive word choices. For example, you use 'essential' multiple times in close proximity, and there are minor collocation errors, such as 'rewarded the essential part' (likely meant 'represented' or 'constituted'). To achieve a higher score, try to vary your vocabulary further and ensure that word choices are consistently natural and precise in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'History has traditionally rewarded the essential part' is grammatically awkward, and 'science and technology are much essential' should be 'much more essential'. Additionally, there are minor issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'how the society build and developed'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and comparative structures would be beneficial.
