IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that in today’s world subjects like Science and technology are more important than History.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example form your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the present age, the education is the most important part of our life every subject are important to learn. On that note however, few people say that history is one of the most essential school subject. Other people believe that in todays era subjects like science and technology are more important than history. In this essay i will discuss both the views and give my opinion.

There are many reasons provided by the people who support the former view. To begin with, the history is important because it teaches the values and traditions of the culture in today's time still there are many place of historical times that people like to visit. For example, the Humayun's tomb which is located in Delhi so many people visit to see the making and to know about it. Secondly, the history is known as the culture of art when many people see that art they become speechless by seeing that art those who people are found of that making art and have craze of knowing culture and tradition.

On the other hand, those who favour the latter view the reasons are as follow. To initiate with, it is seen that, the science and technology is growing fast and this things have made people's life easier . This both things are more important because if we are not adapted with the latest technology we will be not able to work in this present era. For example today's education in worldwide has become online and if we don't know how to use the technology like laptop and its advance features we will not able to do. In addition to that, nowadays in office and at work it is whole based online on various platforms so if we are not aware about it it is a big loss to us , so its better to learn it. Thus, because of studying and for good job opportunities is important to learn science and technology .

To conclude, some individuals think that history is important because of their art culture tradition many people think it is important by this we can learn about traditions, however, my favour opinion the fact that science is important because of advance life and also for better job opportunities.

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'important', 'good', and 'things'. Some word choices are imprecise or non-standard, such as 'found of that making art' and 'craze of knowing'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of errors in collocation prevent a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and technology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every subject are important', 'the history is important'), article misuse ('the education', 'the history'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are run-on or lack proper structure, such as 'Thus, because of studying and for good job opportunities is important to learn science and technology'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency is high, which limits the score to the 5.0–5.5 range.
