Student answer (Band 6.5)
There have been people who argued that History is one of the most essential school subjects, and others who opted that Science and Technology is a very paramount subject in today’s world. Actually, both subjects are crucial subjects that students are required to study but I support that Science and Technology is more important than History.
On one hand, History is one subject that every student is required to study because it gives people insights into how their nation’s past existence was like. It makes citizens to understand the roles played by their country heroes to ensure their freedom, and the significance of the sacrifices made by each individual. Without learning History, there is no way , that people would come to know how their country emerged, and is at the exact stage it is.
On the other hand, Science and Technology has changed the way we view the world. It is rapidly changing the odd way we used to work to make life more easier and less demanding for us. Without Science and Technology, many products we are using currently would not have been made. Now, we are in the era of Artificial Intelligence as a result of Science and Technology. Moreover, AI has made automated almost every work. It has enabled humans to accomplish works faster than they used to get it done. AI is increasingly being used in medicine, and has encouraged effective treatment of diseases through efficient diagnostic which would not have been possible just by studying History.
Additionally, though both subjects are very important to be taught in schools but the role that studying Science and Technology plays in our society today cannot be overlooked. Science and Technology is indispensable, and I recommend that every student should be encouraged to study it because our future depends on it due to the promises it holds. Science and Technology has saved our world a lot of problems which has continued to strive as a result of new discoveries and recent developments.
In conclusion, in as much as all subjects are important, the government should make it mandatory that every student should at least get a basic knowledge of Science and Technology because of its usefulness in our world today.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and clearly states a position. The ideas are relevant, particularly the focus on the practical benefits of Science and Technology. However, the development of the 'History' argument is somewhat superficial, focusing on general concepts like 'national heroes' without specific examples. The conclusion is clear, but the overall development could be more balanced. The essay meets all parts of the prompt, but the depth of analysis for the opposing view is slightly limited compared to the preferred view, which prevents it from reaching the highest band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Additionally' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the second paragraph: 'Without learning History, there is no way, that people would come to know...'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'indispensable', 'automated', and 'diagnostic'. However, there are some awkward word choices and inaccuracies, such as 'opted that Science and Technology is a very paramount subject' (paramount is an absolute adjective and does not take 'very') and 'made life more easier' (double comparative). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in word choice and a better understanding of how to use academic modifiers.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'There have been people who argued' (should be 'There are people who argue'), 'made life more easier' (should be 'made life easier'), and 'efficient diagnostic' (should be 'efficient diagnostics'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are unnecessary commas, such as in the phrase 'no way , that people'. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score in this criterion.
