Student answer (Band 6.0)
School is a place of learning, where we have different subjects such as maths, science, history, economics etc.
Every subject has its own importance and value. Each subject teaches us different things and is useful is different ways in our life. If two subjects have to be compared based on importance, the values provided by both subjects and advantages of studying and mastering those subjects have to be discussed.
First lets discuss the views of people who think History is one of the most important school subject. This subject teaches the students about their past, about other states/ provinces/ countries past. And why is learning about past important? because it teaches the students about their roots, about how the nations and kingdoms are formed and how they are broken. It teaches students of previous mistakes made and they arre made to learn to avoid such mistakes in life. History can help students understand the current political system and its structure and the reason it is structured this way.
Next lets take a look at why people think subjects like Science and technology are more important than History. The fact to be noted is modern life is heavily dependent on modern technology. Scientific knowledge is important for areas such as medicine, engineering, environment protection etc. Such areas are where the current growth is happening and the skills in such fields are very much useful to society. Technology provides students with skills needed for future jobs. Scientific research can provide solutions to modern day problems such as pollution or diseases etc. Digital skills are necessary for education and employment.
According to me Science and technology hold more value than History. Although History is important for understanding society and getting values, it can be obtained through other ways like just by living around people ans experiencing them would give a brief idea about it whereas Science and Technology are more important in modern education because it provides students with skills and knowledge directly applicable and useful in this modern society and even to the society.
Developing a vaccine helped countless number of lives and the knowledge required to acquire is obtained by paying more importance to Science and technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The arguments for History (understanding roots and avoiding past mistakes) and Science/Technology (modern relevance, problem-solving, and career skills) are relevant. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation for why History is less important—suggesting it can be learned just by 'living around people'—is a weak, over-generalized argument that lacks academic depth. While the position is clear, the supporting examples, such as the mention of vaccines, are brief. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more nuanced analysis rather than relying on simplistic justifications for their stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First lets discuss', 'Next lets take a look', and 'Although', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the vague use of 'it' in the final paragraph, which could refer to either history or the values derived from it. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the flow of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is some use of topic-specific vocabulary like 'political system', 'scientific research', and 'digital skills'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive phrasing (e.g., 'important', 'subjects', 'useful'). There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the knowledge required to acquire is obtained' and 'experiencing them would give a brief idea'. To improve, the student should aim for more sophisticated synonyms and collocations to demonstrate a wider, more flexible range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include missing articles ('in our life' should be 'in our lives'), subject-verb agreement issues ('they arre made'), and informal punctuation choices (e.g., 'lets' instead of 'let's'). The use of complex structures is present but not always error-free. The sentence 'the knowledge required to acquire is obtained by paying more importance to Science and technology' is somewhat clunky and grammatically awkward. Increased attention to proofreading for small errors would significantly enhance the accuracy of the writing.
