Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people believe that history is the most essential part in school education while others argue that science and technology are utmost crucial nowadays. In my opinion, both the views are considerably vital for an overall balanced curriculum. Each of them has its own importance and use.
To begin with, history is the most popular and well known subject. Learning this subject gives the child a detailed perspective of how the world is before they were born. For instance, children get to know about the world wars that happened earlier in 20th century and be aware of those similar circumstances if they might repeat in future. Furthermore, history plays a major role in making certain decisions in present days, for example, in past India is largely dependent on the USA for the fossil fuels but, today it is completely relied on Russia because of some differences in decisions with the US regarding support during the Iran-Israel war. Hence, the future government will probably avoid contacting US for these resources. Thus, history is considered as a essential subject to learn in school.
On the other hand, science and technology are equally important as much as history is. In this growing world, advances in technology and science are increasing so that people need to be updated with them. Such that, the school children should learn them in order to cope up in future, recently an air fryer came into light which is attracting as many people as it could, which is making lives easier by preparing meal within minutes is a great example. Hence, schools need to focus on these type of subjects too.
In conclusion, I believe that both the history and technological science are equally needed in order to provide the students with a balanced and more sophisticated curriculum.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for history is supported by a specific example regarding India's energy policy, though the logic is slightly convoluted. The argument for science and technology is less convincing; the example of an 'air fryer' is too trivial and narrow to represent the importance of science and technology in a global or educational context. To reach a higher band, you should focus on broader, more significant impacts of these subjects, such as medical advancements or environmental sustainability, rather than household appliances.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the internal cohesion within the second paragraph is weakened by the abrupt shift from historical analysis to the air fryer example. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the topic sentence and the supporting evidence could be more seamless to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'essential', 'perspective', and 'sophisticated'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'utmost crucial' (should be 'of utmost importance') and 'came into light' (should be 'came to light'). Additionally, the phrase 'technological science' is slightly unnatural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to use more precise collocations and less common lexical items to move into the higher band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'how the world is before they were born' (should be 'was'), 'in past India is' (should be 'in the past, India was'), and 'these type of subjects' (should be 'these types of subjects'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, particularly when discussing historical events versus current realities.
