Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued by many people that one of the most crucial subjects is school is History because it connects students with their roots, whereas others think subjects such as Science and technology are more important at present and I completely agree with this view, particularly because the world is now heavily dependent on scientific breakthrough and sophisticated technological innovations.
On the one hand, History acknowledges students about the past struggles, sacrifices and information which encourages them to value their culture and independence more. As a result, they do not take the present the priviledges for granted. For example, when students learn about the events of Liberation war of Bangladesh, they respect the martyrs for the sacrifices they did for the language and eventually aspire to be philanthropists, disciplined and respectful. Therefore, many consider this as one of the most important subjects in school.
On the other hand, the present dynamic world is inevitably connected to modern science and technology. Scientific researches and technological advances are frequently shaping the future in terms of our lifestyle, employment and so on. Consequently, it is important for schools to prioritize teaching students about science and technologies so that they can be influenced to become one of the professionals who make the innovations or build future career accordingly. For instance, when schools emphasis on Science and technology more, students build basic foundation properly and may get interested in becoming scientists, researchers, developers in technology field and so on, who can contribute to our world positively. Hence, much emphasis should be given on teaching Science and technology over history.
In conclusion, whilst History is a very important subject in schools to keep students attached to their culture, i firmly believe Science and technology related subjects hold more importance today as globalization is largely dependent on scientific researches and technological advancements.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly discuss both views and provide a consistent personal opinion throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and well-supported, particularly the example regarding the Liberation War of Bangladesh and the discussion on career development in science. The position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is slightly more nuanced; for instance, you could briefly acknowledge how history might actually contribute to scientific ethics, which would add depth to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and you use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. The flow is generally smooth, though some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the structure is clear and supports the development of your argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'sophisticated technological innovations', 'dynamic world', and 'philanthropists' show a good command of language. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'acknowledges students about' (should be 'teaches students about' or 'informs students of') and 'sacrifices they did' (should be 'sacrifices they made'). Improving these collocations would enhance the naturalness of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'subjects is school' (should be 'subjects in school'), 'priviledges' (spelling error), and 'when schools emphasis on' (should be 'emphasize'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure consistent use of verb forms. The majority of your sentences are clear and understandable, showing a reasonable level of control over complex structures.
