Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people argue about the importance of History as a subject while others believe it would be more advantageous if we teach Science and technology to our children. In my opinion there should be kept a balance between both as this would lead to technological development while our childrens would know their heritage and ancestors.
From the perspective of those who think history is a core subject and should be given more priority. Its importance lies in the main concept of learning from the past while thinking of the mistakes and consequences and avoiding them. This greatly affects our thinking for the future and how to mitiage many situations also improving our decision making ability. For example, the dot-com bubble made alot of people wealthy but when it burst it lead to a great misery to many individuals. Many people learned the importance of diversification from this era and changed their risk assessment strategy, no secure their future. By using history as a tool it could be make a significant impact but won't lead to much development.
On the contrary, focusing only on science and technology would lead to technical innovation. It's implications would have a great positive effect on whole world not just a group of individuals. It really help boost employment and economic growth of the country. For instance, China after gaining independence in 1900s, invested heavily in technological sector literating people about it and now it stands at a major point and is considered one of the major countries that have influence in the world. These aspects are great but would lack a critical point that is the background of where it started.
To conclude, the advantages brought by the technological and scientifical studies are far more than learning history but it lacks a vital point of humans thats the past. As there is also a major quote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". So, I think both are necessary and a equilibrium should be maintained between both.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of learning from historical mistakes and the economic benefits of technological advancement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. The example regarding the dot-com bubble is a bit vague in its connection to the broader argument, and the explanation of China's development is slightly over-generalized. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the depth of analysis is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the contrary' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the final sentence of the second paragraph: 'By using history as a tool it could be make a significant impact but won't lead to much development.' This sentence feels disconnected from the preceding argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate,' 'diversification,' and 'equilibrium.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'literating people' (likely meaning 'educating' or 'literacy') and 'scientifical studies' (should be 'scientific'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of precision in word choice. A wider range of collocations would help elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'there should be kept a balance,' 'our childrens,' 'it lead to a great misery,' and 'it really help boost.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and sentence fragments. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and pluralization is needed to improve accuracy.
