Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding history is quite brief and relies on general statements about 'tradition' and 'sacrifices' without concrete examples. While the points made are relevant, they could be extended with more specific illustrations to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reiterates the writer's stance, ensuring the task requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the final sentence of the second body paragraph and the rest of the paragraph is slightly abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'economic growth', 'productivity', and 'traditional recognition'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'rise economy' (instead of 'boost the economy') and 'aware us' (instead of 'make us aware'). Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'subjects' and 'important'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' missing before 'country's development'), subject-verb agreement ('a country develop' instead of 'develops'), and word forms ('science ad technology' - typo). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips that occur throughout the text. The complexity of the structures is limited, and the errors, while not impeding communication, are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
