Student answer (Band 4.5)

History is the one of the most important school subjects; some others think today's world subjects, like science and technology, are more important than history.

In my opinion,

Nowadays science and technology are playing a significant role in our lives.

because science is working hard in our lives now, while technology as well, because I think in the past days there was no technology of that type. People got information about something, but now mobile phones have come. You search whatever you want to search, and you get everything on your mobile phone. In the past days, like some students, they didn't know how to do homework; they go to somebody for ask that do my homework like that or help me know AI is working very fast they put their homework on chatgpt and chatgpt do it immediately so its a good thing then climate is changing now everything is changed now science is playing a vital role in our lifes by what happened next in the coming generations science is telling about the climate so I prefer that science and technology is good nowadays

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 186 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you mention both science and technology, you completely neglect the 'History' side of the argument, failing to discuss why some people value it as an important subject. The essay lacks a clear structure, and the opinion is not well-supported or extended. To improve, you must address all parts of the prompt equally, provide balanced arguments for both sides, and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay lacks logical paragraphing, appearing as a single, disjointed block of text. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; sentences are often strung together with 'because' or 'and', which creates a repetitive and informal flow. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow, as the transition between the topic of history and the focus on technology is abrupt and lacks a clear logical connection. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and employ a wider range of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'conversely', or 'in contrast' to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'good', 'thing', and 'working'. There is limited evidence of the ability to use less common or academic vocabulary. Phrases like 'in the past days' are unnatural, and there are errors in word choice, such as 'for ask that do my homework'. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to education and technology, and practice using more precise synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and fragments (e.g., 'In my opinion, Nowadays science...'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent, and punctuation is largely absent or misused. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
