Student answer (Band 5.5)

Several individuals express History is one of the most crucial school disciplines. Other citizens believe that in today's world fields like Science and Technology are more vital than history. Both of opinions have own importance. Nevertheless, My point of view is STEM subjects have more importance then History.

On the one hand, History is more valuable then other school subjects. In this case people more likely to read Historical subjects. They have more fond of to read novels and stories. The people who got interest in History of any country, men and place. They choose to study History rather then Science. As instance, my cousin read story books of different Historians. If I talk about with him about Science he frustrates and did not enjoy. As, I talk about any historical place he loves to hear and start conservation.

On the other hand, many locals consider STEM domains are way ahead then history subjects. According to those people they think that Science can bring revolutionary changes to daily life of human being. Science also bring big changes in Health, Transport, Education and Marine industry. For instance, in medical field there is a advancement in equipment used to treat diseases that cannot be cured in past days but now because of Science its got treatment.

According to my perception, Science is more crucial subject then any other subject regarding development in society and for betterment of human lives. Consequently, every body try to learn science disciplines for the sake of human development.

To sum up, everybody has its own opinion some believe arts subjects are good to study but some of the locals say STEM subjects are better. In my opinion Science fields are far more better then History subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The arguments for History rely on personal anecdotes about a cousin rather than broader societal benefits, and the arguments for Science, while more relevant, lack depth. The response would benefit from more sophisticated reasoning regarding how these subjects contribute to global progress or cultural preservation. The position is consistent, but the supporting evidence is limited in scope, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In this case people more likely to read'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the cousin's reading habits and the broader value of History is not fully articulated. Paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'subjects', 'important', and 'Science'. Some word choices are imprecise or non-standard, such as 'locals' to refer to people in general, 'Marine industry' used in a broad context, and 'its got treatment'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of varied, sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of collocation errors limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede fluency. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('everybody try'), incorrect comparative structures ('more better', 'ahead then'), and missing articles or prepositions ('in medical field', 'in past days'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels repetitive or disjointed. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
