Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debate about whether History should remain a major school subject or whether greater importance should be given to Science and technology. This essay will discuss both the perspectives, and I believe that both areas are valuable, although Science and technology are particularly important in the modern world.

One reason why history is considered important is that it allows us to Know about our leaders, wars and the mistakes that lead to the downfall of our historical figures.

For example, learning about the Mughal Emperor will help us that how powerful and Courageous kings Can be distracted.

From this we will be able to know the mistakes that we had done in past so that we don't repeat the same mistakes in our future. It will help us to learn the strategies against our enemies.

On the other hand science and technology help people stay up to date with in the modern world. Science and technology has a great effect on our daily lives and future career. Our future now depends on , how much familiarity do we gave with the new technology. Ai is used by everyone. Jobs are now more tech based. Technology keeps us up to date through different social media platforms.

Science also plays an important role in health care.

For example, we can quickly access the latest news, also students can use smartphones and the Internet to learn about new scientific discoveries or study from online courses.

This helps us to know about the modern world and its needs.

In conclusion, while History helps students understand the past, Science and technology provide knowledge that is increasingly relevant to modern life. In my view, both subjects deserve an important place in education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The section on history is brief and relies on a vague example regarding the Mughal Emperor, which lacks specific historical context or depth. The arguments for science and technology are more relevant to the modern context but remain somewhat superficial, focusing on generalities like 'AI' and 'smartphones' without fully exploring the implications for education. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed, analytical support for your arguments rather than listing general benefits. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'One reason', 'On the other hand', 'In conclusion'). There are instances where the connection between sentences could be smoother; for example, the transition between the discussion of historical figures and the conclusion about future strategies is abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from a more varied range of linking words and better internal cohesion within paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'downfall', 'scientific discoveries', and 'modern world'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'how powerful and Courageous kings Can be distracted' and 'how much familiarity do we gave with the new technology'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your points, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Science and technology has'), word order ('help us that how powerful'), and punctuation (missing spaces after periods). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the mistakes that we had done in past'. While you attempt complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules, such as article usage and verb tense consistency, and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
