Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary society, it is often argued that history should teach to students, while others believe it is outdated in this age of science and technology. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that history is an important subject.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why some people believe history is as important as the existence of a nation. Not only does it allow a nation to identify their value but also tell them in which direction should they go. For instance, those nation whose history was bright than their present, the youth can get motivation and determination by following the ways their leaders used to follow. Learning about ancient people and their methodologies can help people to invent modern technologies. For instance, by learning about how mobile phones and airplane were invented, can develop students' critical thinking and their curiosity towards their functions. As a result, it is highly likely to make future more advanced and bright by reading history.
On the other hand, others contend that students should develop more interest on science and technology. Though, the wonders of science are incredibly surprising, and it has become more advanced due to artificial intelligence. They believe that students should really into the scientific inventions and their merits rather than reading about the philosophy of ancient people. However, history gives them much to know about science and different lessons. For instance, students can learn the lesson of consistency and perseverance from Einstein, who did hundreds of try to discover a bulb.
In my opinion, teaching history in schools should be given a priority because a nation's present depends on it's past. Youth can learn lessons from the past and make their present and future even more better.
All things considered, although science and technology contribute to the benefits of humans, I believe history also has a key role in teaching great lessons and useful pieces of advice. The advantages of making history an important subject outweigh its complete removal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of history in national identity and the practical lessons of perseverance. However, some arguments are underdeveloped or slightly illogical; for example, the claim that learning about ancient people helps invent modern technologies is not clearly explained. The link between reading history and the invention of mobile phones is tenuous. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples directly support the main point rather than making broad, unsupported claims. The position is consistent throughout, but the development of ideas could be more precise and analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'All things considered', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Though, the wonders of science are incredibly surprising'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'those nation whose history was bright than their present', where the connection between the history and the youth's motivation is not smoothly articulated. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary society', 'methodologies', and 'perseverance'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'bright than their present' (should be 'brighter'), 'did hundreds of try' (should be 'made hundreds of attempts'), and 'make their present and future even more better' (redundant comparative). While the meaning is never in doubt, the range is limited, and the errors in collocation prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('those nation', 'history should teach to students'), articles ('the bulb'), and comparative forms ('more better'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction, such as the fragment 'For instance, by learning about how mobile phones and airplane were invented, can develop students' critical thinking'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching the 7.0 band, which requires a higher frequency of error-free sentences.
