Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the conclusion is incomplete and cut off. The ideas are relevant, such as the importance of learning from past mistakes and the practical utility of science in the job market. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the reference to a 'West London University' study is vague and lacks a clear connection to the argument. To improve, you should ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently maintained throughout, and ensure the essay is fully completed to provide a balanced discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions between paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is abruptly terminated, which disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows logically into the next, leading to a fully developed and coherent conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'important' and 'knowledge'. There are also spelling errors like 'anccestors' and 'agulating' (likely meant 'aggregating'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition and enhance the precision of your arguments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('science and history both plays'), missing articles ('should teach in schools' instead of 'should be taught'), and awkward phrasing ('as compare to history'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve accuracy.
