Student answer (Band 5.5)
According to the majority of people schools should focus more on history as a subject, whereas others argue that science and technology hold more importance for children's growth. This essay will discuss both views and my opinion.
On the one hand, history holds a very important role in the education of children because it teaches them the mistakes and their past which can help them to learn from the mistakes and improve the future. Whereas they can also learn how inventors invented different types of inventions and take an idea to create new and efficient inventions. Moreover, history teaches the children about their background and the sacrifices made by their ancestors which gives a feeling of respect and pride.
On the other hand, science and technology help children to create new and futuristic inventions which would help the youth to grow faster, and understand how the different things work on earth which would make their minds more sharp and prone to do work more easily and with different techniques. Furthermore, many unsolved theories could be solved and humongous progress could be made by the generation and it would make life easier and more efficient.
In my opinion, by combining both history and science, technology children can invent new innovations with the help of past from where the idea came and how the product was made and combining it with new technology and many different advancements a perfect product could be made and there would be huge development in the society.
To conclude, history holds a lot of importance in children's life as well as science and technology is also as much important for the growth of children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding history focuses on 'mistakes' and 'ancestors' in a general way, and the science section relies on vague terms like 'humongous progress' and 'different techniques' without providing concrete examples or specific real-world applications. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific evidence or illustrative examples. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and could more effectively synthesize the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' to link your thoughts. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between sentences could be smoother. For example, the final sentence of the second paragraph feels slightly disconnected from the previous point. Additionally, the use of referencing could be more precise to avoid repetition of the subjects being discussed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on somewhat simplistic phrasing, such as 'different types of inventions' and 'make their minds more sharp.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'prone to do work more easily.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to education and technological advancement, and focus on using words that convey your meaning with greater precision rather than relying on general descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'science and technology children can invent' (missing preposition/conjunction) and 'history holds a lot of importance in children's life' (should be plural 'lives'). There are also issues with punctuation and sentence boundary control, particularly in the final paragraph where the sentence structure is run-on. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will help improve your score.
