Student answer (Band 5.5)
According to the majority of people schools should focus more on history as a subject, whereas others argue that science and technology hold more importance for children's growth. This essay will discuss both views and my opinion.
On the one hand, history holds a very important role in the education of children because it teaches them the mistakes and their past which can help them to learn from the mistakes and improve the future. Whereas they can also learn how inventors invented different types of inventions and take an idea to create new and efficient inventions. Moreover, history teaches the children about their background and the sacrifices made by their ancestors which gives a feeling of respect and pride.
On the other hand, science and technology help children to create new and futuristic inventions which would help the youth to grow faster, and understand how the different things work on earth which would make their minds more sharp and prone to do work more easily and with different techniques. Furthermore, many unsolved theories could be solved and humongous progress could be made by the generation and it would make life easier and more efficient.
In my opinion, by combining both history and science, technology children can invent new innovations with the help of past from where the idea came and how the product was made and combining it with new technology and many different advancements a perfect product could be made and there would be huge development in the society.
To conclude, history holds a lot of importance in children's life as well as science and technology is also as much important for the growth of children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument for history relies on general statements about 'mistakes' and 'ancestors' without specific examples. Similarly, the section on science and technology mentions 'unsolved theories' but fails to elaborate on what these might be. The conclusion attempts to synthesize the two views, which is a good approach, but the overall depth of analysis is limited. To reach a higher band, you should provide concrete examples—such as mentioning how studying the Industrial Revolution informs modern engineering—to better support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the final sentence of the second paragraph is a bit repetitive in its structure. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes slightly unclear, such as in the phrase 'take an idea to create new and efficient inventions,' where the antecedent for 'an idea' is vague. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on somewhat repetitive or simplistic phrasing, such as 'very important,' 'different types of,' and 'make life easier.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'prone to do work more easily.' While the meaning is always clear, the use of less common lexical items is limited. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education and technological advancement to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, some are slightly clunky or contain grammatical errors, such as 'science and technology is also as much important,' which should be 'are also just as important.' There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. For example, 'in the education of children' could be more naturally phrased as 'in children's education.' Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the response. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction will help improve your score.
