Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views required by the prompt regarding the importance of history versus science and technology, and a personal opinion is presented, albeit rather weakly near the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited and often obscured by linguistic issues. For instance, the writer mentions that history helps in 'competitive exams' and law, and science and technology are used for 'doctor role' and 'engineer role,' but these points remain under-developed and lack clear, extended supporting examples. Phrases like 'history was important for government occupation not more than technology and science' show an attempt to address the prompt, but the overall position lacks consistent clarity and depth. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed only partially with limited, under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall organization suffers from a lack of clear progression and logical flow. Sentences often appear disconnected or run together without appropriate transitions, such as the sudden shift within the third paragraph from children learning history to 'The lecture was very informative and helped me understand the history better,' which feels out of place in an essay context. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'day by day' or 'to begin with' and 'to finish with.' Paragraphing is attempted, but internal coherence is frequently broken by confusing referencing and abrupt topic shifts, placing this text firmly at Band 4.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that frequently impede communication. Examples of inaccurate lexical choices include 'weather other think' (whether others think), 'competivite exams' (competitive exams), and 'Engeerning role' (engineering profession). The writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'CEO' and 'independent day,' but the control over word formation and collocation is weak. There are frequent errors in word forms (e.g., 'job's' with an unnecessary apostrophe, 'higher positions' instead of senior positions). Because the vocabulary range is limited and noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 4 score is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatically, the essay demonstrates a very limited range of structures. Simple sentences are poorly controlled, and attempts at complex or compound sentences invariably result in faulty syntax, run-on sentences, and severe punctuation errors. For example, the sentence starting with 'To begin with history is one of the most important to learn children...' contains multiple clauses fused together incorrectly without proper punctuation or conjunctions. Subject-verb agreement errors are common, such as 'the most of the people says' and 'history was important.' Frequent errors distort meaning and place a heavy burden on the reader to decipher the intended message. Therefore, the grammatical accuracy and range correspond to Band 4.
