Student answer (Band 5.0)

There are many people in every society who tend their children to study history. On the other hand there are many parents who think that science is more important then history because they think future of the world is science and technology. In the below paragraphs i will discuss both the views and give my own opinion with example.

There are many subjects in every program that we study in the class. There are two subjects that are on debate among the people and these subjects are history and science.

Some people think that history is more important than science and technology. According to their opinion, a student who learn about history can get knowledge about his ancestors and he did not made the same mistakes that his ancestors did. On the other hand, there are many people who think that science and technology is more important than history because they think that future of the world is in science and technology. So in future, there children should be successful in their lives.

Well according to my own opinion, students should have to learn both. They should not only learn about science and technology but also they sould have to get knowledge about their history. For example, a student who did't have knowledge about his past and he's doing the same mistakes that his parents did in the past. But, if he have knowledge about these things he did't do these mitakes again.

In conclusion, both the subjects are important for students. Every subject has its own place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on history versus science and technology, and provides an opinion in the introduction and body paragraphs. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument about learning from ancestors' mistakes is repeated multiple times without much extension or varied supporting evidence. The position is stated, but the ideas remain relatively basic and under-developed, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are limited and lack thorough elaboration. The response attempts to cover the task fully, but the superficial treatment of the arguments prevents it from reaching a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization, utilizing introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs, though the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented and repetitive. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'In the below paragraphs i will discuss' and 'So in future, there children should be successful'. There is a lack of smooth progression between sentences and paragraphs, and referencing is occasionally unclear. While the overall arrangement is marginally coherent, the mechanical use of transition phrases and repetitive linking ('On the other hand') place this writing firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive throughout the response. The student frequently reuses basic terms like 'history', 'science', 'technology', and 'important'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'tend their children to study' instead of 'encourage', 'in the below paragraphs', and 'these mitakes'. Less common vocabulary is virtually absent, and word choices are frequently unnatural. While the language is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, the frequent errors and restricted range reflect the Band 5 descriptor for Lexical Resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The student demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by basic conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, marred by severe grammatical errors, incorrect verb tenses, and missing auxiliary verbs, such as 'a student who learn about history', 'he did not made', 'he did't have knowledge', and 'he's doing the same mistakes'. Subject-verb agreement errors and punctuation issues, such as missing capitalization ('i') and spacing errors after commas and periods, are widespread. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and align with the Band 4 descriptor, though the presence of some correct basic structures lifts it to a 4.5.
