Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both views regarding the importance of history versus science and technology, and a clear, albeit repetitive, personal opinion is presented. The writer discusses how science and technology impact daily activities, communication, and education, and briefly touches upon the value of history in understanding human evolution and the origins of modern disciplines. However, the development of ideas is limited and hindered by severe expression issues. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the lack of fully developed supporting arguments and overly repetitive phrasing place this response firmly at Band 5.0 according to the task achievement descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by broken syntax and poor logical flow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'On other hand' and 'so, believe that'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical links between sentences and paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails repeatedly. These characteristics align closely with the Band 4.0 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student frequently recycles elementary terms such as 'important', 'science and technology', and 'history' without variation. There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'sucject are equals important', 'best think', and 'information gain'. These lexical inadequacies and frequent spelling errors strain the reader and obscure meaning throughout the essay, reflecting the limitations of a Band 4.0 performance in Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences contain severe errors, including fragments, run-on sentences, missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and faulty subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the our daily activity are depends on the technology', 'one people lives in nepal and othe people lives in america both people how to communication to possible'). Complex sentence structures are attempted, but they are almost entirely ungrammatical and frequently distort the intended meaning. This level of grammatical control corresponds to Band 4.0.
