Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some say that History must be major school subject, whereas others argue that Science and technology should be core ciurriculum. I believe that science subjects are vital for students as comparative to traditional subjects like History because science improves an individual's criticial thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
On the one hand, history relates to past and learning about people's traditions and culture enhances diversity. The primary reason for that is students will get to know about world's history and that will improve people's standard of living by not repeating those same mistakes done by our predecessors. As a result, adapting tradiotional culture with new customs will promote diversification. For example, students learning History as their primary subjects often become archeologists which tends to search about old beliefs and what tradional people used to follow. Although it provides tradiotional knowledge and treasure, it doesn't open a student perspective to deal with modern age problems.
On the other hand, science and technology subjects promotes hollistic development in students. This is due to the fact that world is moving in faster pace and with the help of science and technology, more students will become scientists with competent vocational skills. Consequently, students will cultivate congnitive skills and problem solving capabilities, which helps is advancement of the world. For instance, nowdays students are choosing artificial intelligence as their core subject to undergo significant discovery and break-through inventions. I believe this school of thought is preferable as it prepares students for modern workforce with advanced skills.
In conclusion, history may be essential in knowing tradiotional ways and beliefs; however, I believe that science related subjects should be most important subject as they promote growth and prosperity in students which results in the better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on whether History or Science and technology are more important, and provides a clear personal opinion throughout the essay. The writer presents relevant arguments for both sides, such as how history enhances cultural diversity and prevents past mistakes, while science fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and modern workforce readiness. Ideas are generally well-extended and supported with examples, such as mentioning archeologists for history and artificial intelligence for science. However, some arguments, particularly in the history paragraph, tend to drift slightly into broad generalisations rather than deep elaboration. Nevertheless, the position is well-maintained and the task requirements are thoroughly satisfied, corresponding to a Band 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays clear logical organisation and a recognizable progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs covering each view, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to signal the direction of the argument. Paragraphing is used effectively, ensuring each paragraph has a distinct central topic. While referencing is generally clear, occasional minor lapses in cohesive flow prevent this from reaching the higher bands, aligning it firmly with a Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing terms such as 'diversification', 'predecessors', 'holistic development', and 'vocational skills'. There are, however, several lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'major school subject' (missing article), 'core ciurriculum' (spelling error), 'comparative to' instead of 'compared to', 'tradiotional' (repeated spelling error), and 'break-through' (hyphenation/word form). Despite these noticeable errors, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is rarely impeded, which places this response at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses. There is an attempt at varied sentence formation, such as 'Although it provides traditional knowledge and treasure, it doesn't open a student perspective...' However, the text contains a notable frequency of grammatical errors, including missing articles ('History must be major school subject', 'world is moving in faster pace'), incorrect prepositions ('helps is advancement'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('science and technology subjects promotes'). These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of consistent control over complex structures, warranting a Band 6.0.
