Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent times, there is an ongoing debate about a significant best subjects in schools. Despite the fact that history helps people to know the past and predict the future, some people believes that science and technology plays vital rore in society today than history. I strongly believe that science and technology are more important course study than history. Both views will be taken into consideration before a reasonable conclusion is drawn.
Nevertheless, history helps students to know the past and learn from it, understand the present as well as guiding the world in making better decisions in the future. For example, people in Rwanda has learnt from a bitter history of their country where bad government had led to genocide against Tutsi in 1994 and community had managed to fiight against discrimination there-after. Consequently, history also plays a crucial role in education as it helps the government to keep fresh minds of young people to know the past failures, achievements and ideologies. Therefore, history assist in sharpening critical thinking.
On the other hand, science and technology build a cognitive skills and help scholars to prepare for modern life. Moreover such subjects increases curiosity held by students and improves problem-solving as well as creates better employment opportunities. For example, my cousin who studied Information Technology has developed a website at the age of 21 which gave him sufficient money. As a result, such courses are more important in this contemporary era. Hence, science and technological studies are more important than history.
In conclusion, although it is important for history to be taught in schools, I believe than science and technology are more important field of study. Moreover, this courses will be dominant in the world in the future

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on the importance of school subjects and clearly stating an opinion in favor of science and technology. The student develops ideas with relevant examples, such as referencing the historical context of Rwanda and personal experience with an IT cousin. However, there are some minor generalisations and occasional slight under-development in the final body paragraph. The position is clear throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a solid Band 6.5 or 7.0, ultimately fitting well into Band 6.5 due to the minor limitations in extension.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Nevertheless', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in 'Consequently, history also plays...' where the transitional phrase does not entirely fit the logical flow. Overall, the arrangement is coherent, satisfying the descriptors for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic essay, using terms such as 'contemporary era', 'critical thinking', and 'problem-solving'. However, there are notable lexical and word-form errors throughout the text, such as 'plays vital rore' (role), 'course study' (courses of study), 'build a cognitive skills' (build cognitive skills), and 'this courses' (these courses). These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'Although it is important for history to be taught in schools, I believe...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'there is an ongoing debate about a significant best subjects', 'some people believes', and 'people in Rwanda has learnt'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the points made, they persist throughout the response, placing the grammar securely in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
