Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views regarding the importance of History versus Science and Technology, and clearly states the writer's personal opinion in favor of Science and Technology. However, the ideas are relatively underdeveloped and lack specific supporting examples, relying instead on broad generalizations. Additionally, the response falls slightly short of the required word count, containing 248 words instead of the minimum 250 words. This minor length penalty prevents the task achievement score from reaching a higher band. While the prompt is generally addressed, the explanation of why History is valuable is somewhat superficial, and the arguments for science focus heavily on future trends without much elaboration. To reach higher bands, the writer must expand on ideas with concrete examples and meet the strict word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic overall organization with clear paragraphs separating the introduction, body viewpoints, and conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanically applied or inappropriately linked, such as starting paragraphs with phrases like 'On other hands' or 'In short, although knowing your back story'. Paragraphing is attempted, but some sentences are fragmented, making the flow of ideas less cohesive than required for a higher band. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall structural progression lacks the smooth connectivity expected at Band 6. To improve, the student should focus on accurate linking words and ensure smooth logical transitions between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it contains frequent spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality. Examples include misspelled words like 'techonology', 'moderen', 'Artifical', 'quieres', 'opion', and 'intiall'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'globalized era', 'advancements', and 'foundation', but these are undermined by basic lexical inaccuracies and poor collocations (e.g., 'basic knowledge feed to them'). The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which places this response firmly in the Band 5 category. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and ensure correct word forms in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'what type of country was the country before you were ever born', 'what were the things existed', and 'to be keep in touch'. Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and fragments, such as 'So, every child from the begining knows about the advancements made in this field, with the basic knowledge feed to them from the very younge age.' These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede the clarity of communication. To improve, the student must work on sentence structure accuracy and basic grammatical rules.
