IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that in today’s world subjects like Science and technology are more important than History.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example form your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is aruged that history carries more weightage as a part of the school curriculum, while other argues that in the modern world science and technology are the fundamental subjects. I believe that al the subjects including history science and technology, has a separate value in a course and all ow the student to make changes by the help of science and technology on the basis of pre-existing knowledge of history.
In the 21st centuery, world is evolving with a drastic changes in every field. I t becomes possible because the scietntists use the history as a background knowledge to invent a new thing. The fact can't be denied history has a paramount role in the school curriculum. For instance, it helps the students to know the evolution process of the world. How this world came into being

The response attempts to discuss both views regarding the importance of history versus science and technology, and gives a personal opinion. However, the student fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 138 words. Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into two short paragraphs, but the overall progression is disrupted by the premature ending and incomplete sentences, such as 'How this world came into being' left without punctuation or further development. While there are some basic attempts at logical transitions, such as 'In the 21st century', the cohesive devices are somewhat mechanical and the lack of a proper conclusion or fully formed paragraph structure demonstrates weaknesses in overall organizational control.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent misspellings and awkward collocations. Examples include 'aruged' for argued, 'weightage', 'centuery', and 'scietntists'. While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'evolution process' and 'background knowledge', the noticeable spelling and word-choice errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and emerging complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, such as 'while other argues' (disagreement in plural/singular), 'al the subjects including history science and technology, has a separate value' (punctuation and agreement errors), and 'I t becomes possible because the scietntists use the history'.
