Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both views regarding the importance of history versus science and technology, and gives a personal opinion in the conclusion stating that all sorts of subjects must be taught. However, the development of ideas is limited and hindered by severe language barriers. The arguments are presented in a very generalized manner without deep elaboration. For instance, the mention of science making a 'big difference' and technology playing 'un important role' lacks specific, well-supported examples. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the lack of fully extended ideas places this response at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for addressing the core prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is divided into paragraphs, but the overall organization and logical progression are heavily compromised. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, relying heavily on run-on sentences and basic connectors like 'firstly', 'further more', and 'in conclusion'. There is a lack of clear referencing; for example, pronouns like 'it' and 'this' are frequently ambiguous in their antecedents. Sentences often bleed into one another without proper punctuation, making it difficult to follow the progression of thought. This fits the Band 4 descriptor where information and ideas are not arranged coherently.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is basic and limited, with pervasive spelling errors that heavily strain the reader throughout the text. Words such as 'peple' (people), 'tought' (taught), 'lifesyle' (lifestyle), 'abered' (appeared), 'sorte' (sort), 'buliding' (building), 'proplames' (problems), 'sbjects' (subjects), 'alawes' (allows), 'yonge' (young), 'benifacial' (beneficial), 'soultion' (solution), 'easer' (easier), 'histore' (history), 'hirtag' (heritage), 'mationes' (nations), 'nicent' (ancient), 'whileing' (willing), 'inhirtag' (inheritance), 'intallegent' (intelligent), and 'acinte' (ancient) demonstrate severe spelling deficiencies. The range of vocabulary is minimal and repetitive, meeting the criteria for Band 4 where errors frequently strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the response. The text consists almost entirely of flawed simple and complex sentences, plagued by missing punctuation, run-on structures, and frequent errors in basic tense and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'peple were being tought', 'lifesyle have changed', 'subjects that need to be tought'). There is a complete lack of sentence boundaries in places, creating massive run-on blocks of text. Punctuation is largely ignored, which severely impedes readability. These pervasive errors in basic grammar and structure align firmly with Band 4.
