Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's world, some people believe that History is one of the most important school subjects, while others argue that subjects like Science and technology are more important. In my opinion, subjects like Science and technology help to develop unique products and solutions, so this kind of subject is more important.
On the one hand, people believe that History is one of the most important subjects because it allows students to know the culture of ancient times. This is because a student may only know the history of the world through the subjects taught in the school. For example, this subject helps students to learn how the ancient people created fire from stones, how they took shelther without homes, and so on. They may also know about the kings and queens who took control over their country. All these knowledge help them in their overall development. As a result, History helps students to gain knowledge about ancient people. Additionally, it also helps students to know about the evolution of human beings and other things. They can gain knowledge about how humans evolved from an animal. Also, it helps them to learn about how people have developed technologies over the years, from riding on animals to riding on vehicles.
On the other hand, critics argue that subjects like Science and technology encourage students to create a strong foundation in the technology field. This may help them to improve academic grades and get admission in top ranking colleges, this encourages them to make a better future. Therefore, gaining knowledge about Science and technology helps children to create a strong foundation for their career path at a young age. Furthermore, studying Science and technology subject in school helps a country to create innovative solutions. This is because if students learn about technologies at a young age, this encourages them to gain more knowledge about it and even lead to create some innovative soultions. This approach helps countries to involve young minds in the field, which leads to create innovative solutions.
In conclusion, teaching History in schools allows students to know about the culture of ancient times and evolution of human beings. However, subjects like Science and technology help students to create a strong foundation for their career path at a young age and encourage them to create innovative solutions. I believe that subjects like Science and technology are more important in the current scenario.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of History versus Science and technology, and clearly states the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported, such as explaining how history teaches culture and evolution, and how science and technology build career foundations and create innovative solutions. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise or be slightly repetitive in the body paragraphs, such as repeating the phrase 'leads to create innovative solutions' multiple times. Overall, the task is well-addressed and a clear position is maintained throughout, fitting the criteria for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is clearly organised with a logical overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing each view, and the conclusion. A variety of cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion'. While the referencing and linking are generally clear, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive in their phrasing, which keeps it from reaching the higher bands. Nevertheless, cohesion is well managed throughout the text, warranting a solid Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'evolution of human beings', 'innovative solutions', and 'career path'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'shelther' instead of 'shelter', 'All these knowledge' instead of 'All this knowledge', and the misspelled 'soultions'. Repetition of certain words like 'create' and 'knowledge' also limits lexical flexibility. Communication is never impeded, but these minor errors and limitations place the response comfortably within the Band 6.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like structures successfully (e.g., 'This is because if students learn about technologies at a young age, this encourages them...'). There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'so this kind of subject is more important' and plural/singular agreement issues like 'All these knowledge help'. However, these errors do not impede communication and the punctuation is generally sound. The control over grammar represents a typical Band 6.0 performance.
