Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that history is essential and the view that science and technology are more important in the modern world, while also providing a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on science and technology heavily relies on earning opportunities and AI without expanding deeply into broader societal or cognitive benefits. Similarly, the arguments for history covering culture, wars, and school trips are stated rather than fully extended. This places the response comfortably at Band 6, where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, though some parts and arguments remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and each body paragraph focuses on a distinct theme. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two views. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. There are noticeable issues with referencing and transitional phrases, such as starting a sentence with 'whereas history is important' as a fragment, or using abrupt shifts like 'Furthermore' and 'In addition'. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'replace humans by it's advancment'. These mechanical features and occasional lapses in logical progression prevent the essay from reaching Band 7, fitting the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion can be faulty or mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating subject-specific terms such as 'digital platforms', 'technological subjects', 'historical monuments', and 'economical structure'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are frequently marred by word choice and spelling errors, such as 'opportinities' for opportunities, 'fimiliar' for familiar, 'childern' for children, 'countrie's' for country's, 'cltural' for cultural, and 'interseting' for interesting. While these errors do not seriously impede communication because the context is clear, their frequency prevents the score from rising to Band 7. The lexical range is sufficient to communicate the main points but lacks the precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures, as seen in 'Students make money by using AI and learning technological subjects.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('AI become famous', 'Every school... have', 'subject become interseting'), article omission ('is argued History is', 'in past'), and preposition misuse ('important in some extent'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear throughout the text. Despite these persistent errors, communication is rarely completely impeded as the intended meaning generally shines through. This profile aligns well with the Band 5 descriptor, where frequent errors in grammar occur and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty.
