Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both sides of the prompt—the importance of history versus science and technology—and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on history mentions learning about the past and culture, and the personal example regarding Islamic history adds some relevance, but the arguments remain rather basic. Furthermore, the task requires a minimum of 250 words, and this response falls slightly short at 249 words, which results in a penalty under the length requirement rule. Consequently, the task has been only partially developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The overall organisation of the essay shows some structural awareness, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, paragraphing and punctuation are severely disrupted throughout the text, with missing capitalisation, abrupt transitions, and unconventional numbering in the introduction. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, such as the sudden shift using 'However' and 'to conclude'. There is no clear logical progression between sentences, and referencing is frequently unclear, making the flow difficult to follow at times. This corresponds to a lower band for organisation and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily impacted by numerous spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'advancement have came', 'infront', 'fallows', 'tought', 'crusial', 'moderen', 'familar', and 'perioty'. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'prominent', 'techniques', and 'practical tasks', the high frequency of lexical and spelling inaccuracies impedes communication and limits the range of vocabulary to a minimally adequate level for basic expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence forms and repetitive structures. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, characterised by severe punctuation errors, missing capital letters, and poor subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Lots of advancement have came', 'subject of history should tought'). Punctuation is largely neglected, with sentences running together or starting without proper capitalization. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band score.
