Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether history or science and technology are more important school subjects, and concludes with a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the discussion on history focuses vaguely on knowing past wars and visiting tourists, while the section on science mentions technology making work easier and offering future opportunities. These ideas are under-developed and lack extended explanation or concrete examples. Although the response touches upon the required elements, the reasoning remains superficial throughout, which aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptors where ideas are limited and generalisations are broad without sufficient support.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay attempts a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. However, the organisation lacks clear overall progression and logical flow. Paragraphing is present, but transitions between sentences and ideas are very weak or mechanical, relying on repetitive phrases like 'moreover', 'today science', and 'a student read history'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical links between arguments. For example, sentences such as 'people thought the history sometimes vistors are visit to home country then they ask to someone and hire them to explain the history' are disjointed and obscure the intended meaning. These characteristics reflect a Band 4 to 5 level of cohesion and coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted to common words such as 'good', 'important', 'life', and 'subject'. There are frequent inappropriate word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'history define the many old years ago talk' and 'students take good marks'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful due to severe errors in word form and expression, such as 'techology makes work easier. it made every one life are relax.' The range is minimally adequate to convey a very simple message, but vocabulary limitations and persistent errors frequently strain the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent and systematic errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, article use, and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include 'some people says history is more important subject', 'science can be define the diffrent things', and 'its also helps to the uture bright.' These errors are pervasive and frequently cause difficulty for the reader, distorting meaning in several places. The density and frequency of these grammatical errors place the response at Band 4.0.
