Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the importance of history versus science and technology—and provides a clear personal opinion. The student's position is presented in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion and body paragraphs. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the arguments regarding history helping people solve current hurdles are vague, and the discussion on science relies on general assertions without deep elaboration. While the task is addressed adequately, the support for the ideas tends to over-generalize rather than provide fully extended arguments. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 6.0 descriptors for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the different viewpoints and the author's opinion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. Expressions such as 'A handful of the general populace' and 'To put it briefly, Although' demonstrate awkward transitions and inappropriate cohesive devices. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'For this, they articulate that...'. The logical progression is interrupted by these awkward phrasings and repetitive sentence structures, making the overall flow somewhat mechanical. This level of organization and cohesive control corresponds to Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'resilient backgrounds', 'cutting-edge era', and 'globetarotting', showing an adequate range for the task. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. Phrases like 'predominant subject in all school subjects', 'History has more paramount than all subjects', and 'globetarotting' used as a verb phrase demonstrate a lack of precision. There are also slight word-form errors, such as 'Coming era' instead of 'The coming era'. Although these errors occur, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning without severely impeding communication, placing the Lexical Resource firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures through conditional and relative clauses, such as 'Due to the fact that if some individuals have more hurdles...'. However, these complex structures are often faulty and awkward. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('History has no solutions of current unusual moments') and preposition errors ('in favour of Science subjects rather than the History subjects'). While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally re-read parts of the text, they rarely completely impede communication. This performance matches the criteria for Band 5.0.
