Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today era , everybody have their own opinion like some people says that history is most important subject in school but some people says that science and technology are more important then history.History subject also important because it teachs student past valuesand cultures. the younger generation knew about the old things also they knew that what our elders do for us in past.

they learn the culture ,values, manners and other things which is important for new generation.

On the other hand, many people says that history is not much important. the science and new technology is more important youngers. no doubht in today era the technology is important in every phase of life.

The world is going too fast in every technology. New things occus in scienece and research is ongoing . In many countries the primary school students use the computer. its important for us and our generation to learn the secience and new technology.

In my opinion, it is important for new generation to learn the history because its very important for their upbringing. They learn the elders values, culture and good manners. Also student learn from histrory how our elders face difficulties and cope them with patience.

To sum up, its important students learn the new technology and science but in my opinion its ,most important students learn from history.

History teaches students basic manners , cultures, values and our roots. Also its make the strong character.

Both subject are important for students and good impact own their life .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether history or science and technology are more important school subjects, and provides a clear personal opinion. The writer argues that history teaches vital values, cultures, and past lessons, while acknowledging the importance of science and technology. However, the ideas are somewhat repetitive, particularly the points regarding values, manners, and elders, which are restated across multiple paragraphs without significant extension or deeper development. While the position is clear throughout, the support remains at a surface level, preventing the response from reaching higher bands. According to the official descriptors, the writer addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position, though some ideas are under-developed, aligning best with a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates an overall coherent arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, paragraphing is poorly executed, with abrupt and very short paragraphs that lack logical transitions. For instance, the second paragraph consists of a single isolated sentence: 'they learn the culture ,values, manners and other things which is important for new generation.' Furthermore, cohesive devices are basic, repetitive, and sometimes misused, as seen in the frequent transitions like 'In today era' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun ambiguity ('cope them with patience'). While the logical progression is hindered by choppy sentences and weak cohesive links, the overall message remains discernible. This performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptors, where there is some organization but inadequate and repetitive cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching upon relevant themes such as 'upbringing', 'patience', 'research', and 'primary school students'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'In today era' instead of 'In today's era', 'teachs' instead of 'teaches', 'histrory' instead of 'history', and 'secience' instead of 'science'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are marred by spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing, such as 'make the strong character' instead of 'builds strong character'. The range is minimally adequate for communication, but the frequency of lexical errors places it firmly within the Band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and repetitive clause patterns, such as 'some people says that' and 'its important'. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('everybody have', 'subjects like Science and technology... is', 'student learn'), missing articles ('in today era', 'from histrory'), and incorrect prepositions or verb complements ('cope them with patience'). Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect spacing around commas and periods. While simple sentences are sometimes accurate, attempts at more complex structures are largely absent or faulty. These persistent errors frequently cause strain for the reader, matching the Band 4.0 descriptor.
