Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed that History is one of the most significant subject among others school subjects, while others claimed that subjects like Science and Technology hold much importance than History in current era. In my perspective, each subject hold its individual value and must not be compared, so i do not agree or disagree with either of the claims. I will elaborate my thoughts and opinions further in the essay.

Variety of subjects are taught in the cirricullum in schools and the reason is to educate a student with every viewpoint of the world's affairs. The claim of History as major subject in school comes from people of previous era as History was and still considered a very literate and essential subject, which is a no to miss. Whereas, Science and Technology are subjects of current generation and these subjects get their popularity with recent advancements in the life, which is also importance to us.

So either of the claims can not be accepted or neglected as each subject comes with its importance and value and they must be considered equally essential and must not be compared with each other. For example, without history subject, a student can have no upbringing of their ancient generations and their sacrifices. Likewise, Science and Technology are equally major for their future interests and to bring creativity in them, otherwise they will fall behind. So no subject is more importance than other but all other subjects like, Maths, English and Social sciences hold same vital role in an educational career of a student.

To sum up, every subject whether History or Science must be taught well like an important subject and no subject should be neglected nor be exaggerated in teaching.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response attempts to address both views and provides a clear position, stating that 'each subject hold its individual value and must not be compared, so i do not agree or disagree with either of the claims.' However, the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial. While the writer mentions reasons such as understanding ancient sacrifices for history and creativity for science, these points are not fully extended or supported with deeper analysis. The introduction of other subjects like Maths and English in the third paragraph slightly dilutes the focus on the specific prompt comparing history against science and technology. Consequently, the task is addressed adequately, but the arguments lack the depth and extension required for higher band levels.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used, though the second and third body paragraphs could be better portioned to separate distinct ideas more clearly. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'whereas', 'so', and 'for example', but their usage is sometimes mechanical or repetitive (e.g., starting multiple sentences with 'so'). Furthermore, referencing is occasionally vague, such as in the sentence 'which is a no to miss', where the pronoun reference is unclear. Overall progression is present, but cohesion requires more flexibility and precision to reach a higher level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'cirricullum', 'advancements', and 'upbringing'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('cirricullum', 'importance' instead of 'important' in several places) and awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'most significant subject among others school subjects' and 'upbringing of their ancient generations'. While the writer successfully communicates their general meaning, these lexical inaccuracies and the limited range of sophisticated vocabulary restrict the score to a band 5.5 or 6.0. Given that communication is mostly clear despite the errors, a band 6.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and concessive clauses ('while others claimed that...', 'without history subject, a student can have...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('each subject hold', 'subjects get their popularity'), missing articles ('in current era'), and awkward phrasing ('so either of the claims can not be accepted or neglected'). Punctuation also shows minor flaws, such as the lowercase 'i' used for the personal pronoun. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause slight hesitation for the reader, fitting the profile of band 5.5.
