IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that in today’s world subjects like Science and technology are more important than History.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example form your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The debate over whether schools should prioritize history or science and technology remains a subject of significant discussion. While history provides cultural values and traditions, I believe science and technology are ultimately more vital in this modern world due to its impact on economic development and innovation.
On one hand, concept of history argues that understanding the past is essential for social growth. Studying about history teaches one about the evolution,global conflicts and cultural traditions. It holds importance in making decisions keeping in mind about the past mistakes. For instance, studying previous economic crisis and developmental issues economists and other people can avoid the repetation of those historical failures. This also provides information about the innovations and developments that have been taken place.
On the other hand, science and technology holds great amount of stake in today's digital world. In this rapidly changing world science and technology emphasize their immediate relevance. These subjects drive towards innovation, infrastructural development, improves health outcomes, and provides practical solutions to global challenges like climate change and disease control. Moreover, the job market constantly demands for expertise in software engineering, artifical intelligence and btech. Expertise in such fields increase the competitive edge of an individual country which makes equipping students with technological literacy prepares them for their future career.
In conclusion, although history provides valuable insights of human heritage and ethical values but in such world science and technology holds a contemporary era. A balanced curriculum should include history, but prioritizing scientific and technological education ensures that youth is adequately equipped to solve modern problems.
