Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is a point of debate that History is considered as one of the most crucial subjects however, some people conted that fields such Technology and Science are more beneficial than History. I believe that although studying History is important at school level, subjects like Science and Technology are more pragmatic in current times.
Studying History at school level is a vital subject because it teaches students how people lived in the past. In this way, students get to know about the living style of their forefathers, what challenges did they face, and how did they utilize their problem solving skills. Therefore, it helps students to make informed decisions about future while having an adequate knowledge of the past. Moreover, those nations who have the knowledge of the past and make decisions on the basis of that knowledge are more likely to excell in their future than the nations who lack historical knowledge. For example, Japan is a leading nation since it has learned from the past and did not repseat the mistakes it had done in the past.
Science and Technology, on the other hand, are more practical fields that help student solve modern problems. They not only solve health problems, but also aid in improving the living standard of people. Along with that, they are also important for manufacturing goods and infrastructure, so they increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of a country. That might be the reason ruling nations have more Science and Technology students at secondary level. For example, USA leads the world in technology may be becuase of the higher number of students in Sciene and Technology disciplines.
To conclude, I am of a believe that History is a vital subject at secondary level but disciplines like Science and technology play more significant role in the progress of a country. When there are more pupils in technical fields, ultimately, country will flourish and make progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on the importance of history versus science and technology, and clearly stating a personal position. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as how history aids in decision-making and preventing past mistakes, while science and technology drive economic growth and solve modern problems. These ideas are generally well-supported with examples like Japan and the USA. However, some arguments lack deeper extension, keeping the response at a Band 7 level. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, fulfilling the core requirements of Task Achievement effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical progression and overall organization. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion sections. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'On the other hand', although referencing and transitions occasionally feel slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition into the conclusion ('To conclude, I am of a believe') is a bit awkward. Despite minor flaws in cohesion and referencing, the progression of ideas remains easy to follow throughout, corresponding well to the Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including topic-specific terms like 'pragmatic', 'infrastructure', and 'Gross Domestic Product (GDP)'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though occasional word choice and spelling errors occur, such as 'conted' instead of 'contended', 'excell' instead of 'excel', 'repseat' instead of 'repeat', and 'Sciene' instead of 'Science'. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the lexical range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly without impeding communication, fitting comfortably into the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures like subordinate clauses ('those nations who have the knowledge...'). However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, including 'History is considered as one' (unnecessary 'as'), 'living style' (instead of 'lifestyle'), 'what challenges did they face' (incorrect indirect question word order), and 'I am of a believe' (incorrect article and noun form). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response at a solid Band 6 level.
