Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the importance of history and the value of science and technology, while also presenting a clear opinion in the conclusion that both subjects are important. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For example, the arguments regarding history focus mainly on listing religious occasions and national events like Pakistan's independence on '14th of august 1947', but these points are not fully extended. Similarly, the points on science mentioning 'weather forcast and how to make our life better' are somewhat basic and under-developed. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views and an opinion, the support remains at a surface level, aligning best with Band 5 or Band 6. Because the ideas are relevant and all parts of the task are addressed, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs supporting both views, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, such as starting multiple sentences with 'History in itself' or 'Other group of people say'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'These all tasks are done by science'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of ideas lacks seamless connection. These characteristics place the response firmly in the Band 5 category, as there is some overall organisation but the progression is disjointed and cohesive devices are inadequate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors that impede fluent reading. Examples of spelling errors include 'subjacts', 'worls', 'inportant', 'feilds', 'technlogy', 'lifes', 'crussical', 'imortant', 'forcast', and 'impoortant'. The student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'philosophers' and 'independence' (implied by the historical date), but these are overshadowed by frequent lexical inaccuracies and repetition of basic words like 'important' and 'subject'. This level of lexical control matches the Band 5 descriptor, where vocabulary is limited and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly constructed compound sentences, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as 'important persons whom spent their whole like for that world' and 'there is a lot of events that connected through the history'. Grammatical errors are highly frequent, including subject-verb agreement issues ('history subject illustrate', 'history subject are', 'there is a lot of events'), incorrect prepositions, and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas, are also prevalent. Because errors occur in almost every sentence and impede readability, the grammar score reflects a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for the presence of some comprehensible sentence forms.
