Student answer (Band 5.5)

some people beleive that history is one of most crucial subject for the students in his school life, while other think that science and technology are more important for the student. In this essay i will dicuss both views and give my own opinion.

On the one hand, some peoples argue that history is important for childen. This is evident from fact that when students can read the book of history. They evaluate difference between past life and recently life. For example how people can burn woods with stones. Additionally another advantage of this children shoild know about their past hero. How they live, How they fight and how our Pakistan was build.

On the other hand, other peoples believe that science and techonology is most important subject in school life. Firstly, they thinks that nowdays student completed their degree in scince subject theirfore student shold be base on those subjects.Another reason those subject can help their personal and career life. More jobs avaible for those student who know technology well, theirfore for better carrer those subject is imoptant.

I firmly belive both are important foe student, but technology is most impotant than history because it hlep the student to understand their work properly, with the knowledge od science people go abort for higher study and settle their for whole life. For instance my elder brother went to germany for complete their master in technology scince and after complete thir degree get a job in mobile company and their with his family.

In conclusion, science and technology are most impotant for better career and good lifestyle in life it can give oppurtunites to get job in big companies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on history versus science and technology and presenting a clear personal opinion. The writer attempts to support ideas with examples, such as mentioning how people burned wood with stones in the past and providing a personal anecdote about an elder brother studying in Germany. However, the ideas are relatively underdeveloped and somewhat repetitive, lacking depth in the elaboration. Furthermore, there is a tendency to overgeneralise points without sufficient explanation. While the prompt is adequately covered, the lack of fully developed arguments and superficial supporting details place this performance securely in the Band 5 to 6 range. It meets the requirements for Band 6 by addressing all parts of the task and presenting relevant ideas, though some areas remain underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. The writer employs basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' 'Firstly,' and 'In conclusion.' However, paragraphing is somewhat erratic, particularly in the second body paragraph where sentences are disjointed. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally faulty, and mechanical repetition of transition markers detracts from the flow. For instance, sentences like 'This is evident from fact that when students can read the book of history' create confusion. Overall, the structural framework is present, but cohesion is mechanical and referencing is not always clear, which aligns well with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent misspellings and inaccurate word choices throughout the text. Examples include 'beleive' instead of believe, 'crucial subject' instead of subjects, 'recentily' or 'recently life', 'techonology', 'imoptant', and 'abort' instead of abroad. While there is an attempt to use less common vocabulary like 'career life' and 'opportunities', the persistent spelling and lexical errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and impede fluent reading. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, but the high frequency of spelling mistakes prevents the score from reaching a higher band. This corresponds to the Band 5 descriptor where errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic compound forms. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty and hindered by severe grammatical inaccuracies. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('other peoples believe', 'student completed', 'subject is imoptant'), tense inconsistencies, and missing articles ('build Pakistan', 'in mobile company'). Punctuation is also problematic in several places, breaking the flow of sentences. Although the general meaning can eventually be extracted, the frequent errors in basic grammar cause considerable strain for the reader. This performance aligns closely with Band 5, where frequent errors in grammar and sentence structure frequently cause difficulty.
