Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many individuals argue that history is one of the most essential academic subjects while other people believe that, in the contemporary world, subjects like science and technology are more important rather than history. In my opinion, science and technology books are more significant for nowadays kids because it helps them to understanding modern equipments as well as adjust themself on todays world by solving issues with the help of technology.
On the first hand, it is quite important for human to gain knowledge about their past events. History contains thousands of past events that usually people are not identify with them visually. History helps human to remain their past memories. With the evolution of human beigns there are lots of events were happens on earth, we all know the process of the evolution of human from stone age to modern age through the historical books and documentries. Moreover, history also aid us to protect our traditional culture, norms and values. For example, In during ranas time period in nepal, there was a culture where after the death of husband wife should went to burn their body on fire with the dead body of husband, about this type of culture we only knew from the historical books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on whether history or science and technology are more important school subjects, and provides a clear personal opinion. The writer establishes a clear position in the introduction, arguing that science and technology are more valuable for modern children. Ideas are supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the mention of historical cultural practices in Nepal and the benefits of modern communication and space exploration. However, some arguments lack deep extension and the conclusion shifts slightly to refer to 'undergraduate people' rather than school students, which creates a minor inconsistency. Nevertheless, the requirements of the task are well met overall, leading to a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs addressing each view, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the response. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the arguments, utilizing phrases like 'On the first hand', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical; phrases such as 'On the first hand' are non-standard lexical choices, and some transitions feel abrupt. Paragraph internal cohesion could be smoother, and referencing pronouns like 'them' occasionally lacks absolute clarity. Despite these mechanical flaws, the logical arrangement remains coherent throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'contemporary world', 'evolution', 'documentries', and 'convenient'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'equipments' (uncountable), 'themselves' spelled as 'themself', 'beigns' (beings), 'runs' spelled as 'ranas', and 'communicated' instead of 'communicate'. Additionally, collocation issues appear, such as 'major books on their curriculum' instead of 'core textbooks'. These inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a band 6 due to frequent slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'books are more significant for nowadays kids because it helps', 'wife should went to burn', 'In during ranas time period', and 'with in a shortren time period in a easy way'. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods, are also present. While some complex sentences are successfully produced, the frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the score from reaching a higher band.
